The Kamrup district in Assam is bounded by Bhutan and Nalbari District of Assam in the North. In the south lies the Indian state of Meghalaya. In the east is the Nagaon and Darrang Districts and in the west it has Goalpara and Nalbari Districts. The Climate of Kamrup is sub tropical with semi -dry summer & cold winter. The district is divided into three Sub Divisions which are Pragjyotishpur, Guwahati and Rangia. Major towns in Kamrup district include Guwahati, Palasbari, North Guwahati, Amingaon, Niz-Hazo, Soalkuchi, Rangia.
geeta mandir Kamakhya Temple : A major attraction of the district is the temple of Kamakhya. This is considered the greatest of all Shakpithas. Thousands visit the temple every year. The temple is located in Guwahati on top of Nilachal hill which is 160 metres high.
There are several ancient temples in the Nilachal hill, the most famous being the Kamakhya temple. A small township known as Kamakhya has sprung up near the temple. The place is also known for its natural beauty and it provides great panoramic view of the Guwahati town and the river Brahmaputra.
