Jorhat
The district headquarter of Jorhat is famous for its sprawling tea
gardens. It is the nerve centre of local tea industry. The world renowned
Toklai Experimental Centre for research in Tea is based here. |

Tokai carries on research to find new varieties of tea
and also therapeutic effected of green tea. Regional Research Laboratory
which is situated here conducts investigation on plants, herbs and
soil. There are also other organisations such as Assam Agricultural
University, Technical School etc. |
| The largest island on the Brahmaputra, Majuli,
is also located close to Jorhat. The town is often used as a transit
point for tourists visiting Majuli. The Nambar Forest reserve can
also be visited from Jorhat which is about 60 kms away. A further
drive of 90 kms will take you to Dimapur, the capital of Nagaland. |
Jorhat is connected to Guwahati by a rail. There is an airport that
connects Guwahati to Jorhat. The town is located 314 km from Guwahati
on the National Highway 37. Jorhat acts as a link between lower &
upper Assam. |
