This is a major oil town of the north east India. The town boosts of one of the first and the oldest refineries of the country. The Oil history of the town goes back to the early 18th century when oil was first discovered in the area.

Dibru Saikhowa Wildlife Sanctuary – Famous for its collection of extremely rare white winged wood duck, this sanctuary is a heaven for many other migratory birds. Apart from birds the sanctuary also is the home for many wildlife species including the wild horses, known as Feral Horses.

Located on the banks of Dihing river at the foot of the Patkoi range, the town was given its name by the Italian engineers who worked here during the 19th century. The name was derived from that of the queen of Italy.
National Oil Park - Digboi oil-field also has a oil museum and a wildlife sanctuary of unsurpassed beauty. This place has the oldest oil well of Asia which was discovered in 188. In the evening you may just come across a herd of elephants grazing lazily at branches of trees. war cemetery digboi War Cemetery - During the Second World War the Japanese army reached within three days' marching distance from Digboi. The crematory of the war heroes commemorates the young lives that fought against the invading army.
